A lot of people who know me know, don’t know that I have suffered from horrible eczema most of my late teen to early adult life. Ladies and gentlemen, I have tried all of the tricks in the book to get get rid of it; you name it, I’ve done it. After trial and error I have finally found some easy ways that actually help clear up my eczema break outs. These days I am pretty much eczema free! Here are my top 5 diet tips to get rid of eczema that will help you clear yours up as well!
Drink a lot of naturally alkalized spring water. Preferably bottled in glass bottles (you don’t need those extra plastic chemicals flaring up your eczema). Try to aim for at least half your body weight in ounces daily. So if you weigh 200 pounds, drink 100 ounces of water! This may be a challenge at first, but slowly work your way up to it. Personally my body and skin feels best when I drink at least 3 liters of water a day.
Whether it be kombucha, fermented vegetables, tempeh, or whatever your heart desires. The beneficial bacteria found in probiotics play a very important role in healing your eczema by pin-pointing the source (your gut). Probiotics bring healthy bacteria into your digestive system and strengthen your immune system.
This is important because eczema is an indication that there is a problem within your immune system, and since 80% of your immune system is located in your digestive tract, it is important to take probiotics to keep your belly nice and healthy. By taking probiotics you will help strengthen your immune system and reduce inflammation in your body. Which in turn may help clear your skin from eczema flare ups. Probiotics will help you feel healthy and keep your skin clear from the inside out.
I’m talking, fresh green juices, raw coconut water, fresh aloe vera juice, fresh watermelon juice (I like to blend mine cold with some lime and a little mint), or water with fresh lemon juice, etc. Drinking these hydrating juices will help flush any unwanted toxins out of your body that may be affecting your eczema. And will help keep you super hydrated. Hello clear skin.
Try your best to avoid all processed food/meats/dairy. These foods are very hard for your body to digest. So when trying to clear your eczema, it’s best to give your body a break so it has a chance to heal. This can be easily done by eating simple colorful easy-to-digest plant foods. These foods are packed with essential nutrients for your body.
When your body is going through so much trying to heal itself from your eczema, why would you fill it with toxic complex foods that your body doesn’t like. When you can be filling it with detoxing simple foods that your body loves (fruits, vegetables, whole grains, legumes, nuts & seeds etc.)? Processed food and animal products are not real food. They cause your body more harm then good. So do your body a favor and fill your life with as many fresh fruits, vegetables and whole plant foods as possible. Your skin will show it’s love in return.
What worked best for me personally was going on a high carb low fat raw food diet to help detox my body. Within 1-2 weeks my eczema improved dramatically! I slowly started adding some cooked (plant-based) foods back into my diet. And now being on a plant based vegan lifestyle I rarely have any flare ups! By giving your body this time to heal and giving your body all of the vitamins and minerals it needs, your skin will be how it should be-which is eczema free.
