Are you trying to cut back on your coffee/ caffeine intake, but are struggling to find enough energy throughout your day? Trust me… I’ve been there many (many) times and only recently have I found ways to actually gain energy without any caffeine at all. Relying on caffeine as our energy source is so tempting and is a huge habit that most adults fall into.
I personally hate the feeling of having to rely on a substance (caffeine) to feel like a normal human in the morning + throughout my day. So when I would found myself not being able to start my mornings without it, I knew something had to change. Now I’m not going to lie, the first
few days few weeks are a struggle. But by using these 10 tips, it makes the transition to relying on myself and my own body for energy a breeze. Plus, I’ve found that these tips also boost my immunity, and make me feel amazing and energized all day long. As opposed to the latter caffeine spike and crash that we all are so familiar with, it becomes just a normal part of our lives.
These tips are seriously life-changing (+ add so many health benefits) if you are trying to find a way to gain natural energy without the use of caffeine!
10 Ways To Boost Your Energy Without Caffeine
1. Sleep (longer + smarter)
I’m going to start this off with what I think is the most important tip here, sleep! Getting better quality sleep, and a long enough night of sleep is crucial to how you will feel the next day. We all know sleep is important, but do we really know exactly how important it is? I recently read this book and it honestly changed my life, and my outlook on sleep. It has made sleep a priority in my life now.
When we get a good night of sleep, we can start our day full of energy ready to take on whatever comes our way.
Some quick tips to get a better quality of sleep:
- Limit screen time at least an hour prior to falling asleep
- Download the f.lux app for your computer and utilize nightshift mode on your smartphone (this is life-changing, trust me!)
- Try reading before bed instead of screen time (i.e. watching a movie, checking emails/social media)
- Wash your sheets. Nothing feels better than jumping into a freshly cleaned bed!
- Find a good night time routine
- Take a shower or a relaxing bath before bed
- Lights out! Make sure all lights are turned off and curtains/blinds are closed (even the smallest of lights on in the room can affect your sleep).
2. Lemon Water
Starting your day with some refreshing and energizing lemon water is a great way to boost your energy without having any caffeine. Not only is it hydrating and detoxing- it truly wakes you up and gets your body moving. When I drink lemon water first thing in the morning, I feel so healthy and full of life.
3. Exercise In The Morning
Exercising first thing in the morning is an amazing way to boost your energy and your mood. Aerobic exercise has been proven to increase your mood as it releases endorphins (our body’s natural hormones that are responsible for giving us that feeling of pleasure). Exercise increases oxygen and nutrients into your body, leaving you feeling happy and energetic throughout the day whilst at the same time boosting your mood and giving you a plethora of other added benefits.
4. Broccoli Sprouts
I know what you might be thinking… broccoli sprouts?? Yes, broccoli sprouts. The up and coming superfood that has a numerous amount of benefits. Consuming broccoli sprouts daily for breakfast (smoothies are great) or for an afternoon snack (they work on salads or in sandwiches as well) is an easy and natural energy booster because of the high concentration of sulforaphane it contains. Sulforaphane helps boost your mood/ energy along with an insane amount of added benefits (including but not limited to anti-aging, anti-cancer, healthy brain aging, reducing inflammation, and can help improve cognitive function that helps with memory, learning, motivation, creativity and helps to detox toxins and carcinogens from your body including pollution from the air).
Supplement your diet with some amazing superfoods which are known to boost your energy (along with a numerous amount of other added benefits). My favorite superfoods to use when I need a little energy boost are cacao, goji berries, spirulina, maca, acai, and the above-mentioned broccoli sprouts. (lately, broccoli sprouts have been my favorite as I can literally feel the difference right away. But it is good to mix it up or use a few at one time!)
6. Go Out In The Sunshine
Getting at least 20 minutes of sunshine has profound effects on your mood and overall well being. We often take sunlight for granted, but there are so many benefits and the best part is that it’s free 🙂 Sunshine literally boosts the levels of serotonin in your brain (the happy hormone your body naturally produces). This is why we often feel happier and more energetic when the sun is shining. Regular sun exposure can aid in preventing moderate depression.
7. Mushrooms For Energy
There are a couple of mushrooms that are amazing for your health and boosting your energy and overall wellbeing. Cordyceps improves brain health and is amazing to use for increased energy and has been shown to improve stamina. Another powerful mushroom is Lion’s mane. Lion’s mane is often called the “smart mushroom” and has been proven to have neuroprotective benefits. This powerful mushroom is a nootropic improving cognitive functions and boosting creativity, concentration and improving memory and motivation. Cordyceps is my favorite mushroom to have before I work out or have a long day ahead of me that I will need prolonged energy + stamina. And Lion’s mane is my favorite mushroom to have before I have to do a lot of work that requires concentration, or prior to studying + going to class.

8. Take A Cold Shower
I know this one might be hard to talk yourself into, but once you do it and have it done you will feel so alive! Not only does it increase alertness, boost mood and increase circulation. But it also is so good for your hair and your skin, plus can stimulate weight loss! So tomorrow morning when you need a little energy boost, talk yourself into jumping in that cold shower.
9. B12 Supplement
B12 is such a powerful and necessary vitamin and it’s so easy to be deficient in it and not know it yet (especially if you eat more of a plant-based diet). B12 is a necessary nutrient that helps make red blood cells and DNA. B12 is also responsible for mood and energy. In fact, one of the first signs of a B12 deficiency is fatigue. This vitamin is so important (especially as we age) and is necessary in order to live a healthy, happy and energetic lifestyle. You can get B12 shots, but I personally love taking this B12 spray, as it tastes good and is easy to remember to take daily!
10. Stay Hydrated
Most of Americans are dehydrated and don’t even know it. The power of staying hydrated is so often overlooked. Even mild dehydration can affect your energy levels, mood, and your ability to think clearly. It is so so important to stay hydrated. A good rule of thumb is to drink at least half of your body weight in ounces daily. So say you weighed 200 pounds, you would then drink 100 ounces of water a day. And if you are active, I would recommend even more! The more water you drink, the more you will realize how much you need it.
