Where Are You Going? | Finding Your Purpose

Where Are You Going?

I was in a yoga class yesterday, and my teacher asked us this question, “where are you going?” ¬†Now.. hear me out before you think I’m going to get all “yogi” on you, because I’m not, trust me ūüėČ

Usually, the reason I go to yoga is to feel good physically by moving my body. And to also feel good mentally by releasing my day or any stresses I am in the midst of. I love the spirituality aspect of it, but I don’t always connect with every teacher or every practice. And I definitely don’t leave every class feeling extremely enlightened or “god sent”. ¬†But every now and then I will come to a realization throughout my practice, either through myself with my movements and my breath, or through something my teacher says. And that’s exactly what happened to me yesterday.

For some reason in this class I was feeling a strong emotional connection, which I was not expecting at all. The teacher asked us “where are you going?”. Where are you going in this class, in your practice, in your day, your week, your life, right now. It really sparked something within, and made me think “where am I going??”

I couldn’t necessarily answer it..

And truth is, I don’t fully know! And I don’t think a lot of us do. Sure I have ideas, and dreams, and goals.. I have things I’m currently working on, things I plan to work on next, to-do lists for the day, intentions for my practice, ambitions for next week or even next year. But¬†where¬†is it all taking me??

What your doing right now, in this present moment, will take you to where you are going. Your present moment will become your future. And in this present moment are you happy? Why are you doing what your doing?

So naturally, the question not only becomes where am I going? But also, what am I doing currently, and am I happy? Am I working towards my goals daily? Or even, what are my goals? What is my purpose?

“If you don’t know where your going, you’ll wind up someplace else”

Finding Your Purpose

Now, the whole point to this question I believe is finding¬†your purpose.¬†What do you really want to do in your life, what what do you want out of it? What makes you feel fulfilled? If your not happy with what your doing in your life right now.. ¬†I¬†hate to break it to you, but it’s your own fault. It’s your own fault that your in the position and the place you are in right here and right now. As is, it’s my own fault I’m in the place I’m currently in. My thoughts, actions, behaviors, and habits have brought me to this exact moment, whether I like it or not.¬†

Where are you going on a daily basis? Are you working towards what you want, or are you just fulfilling someone else’s needs, dreams, wants, or desires? The fact of the matter is this is¬†your¬†life. No one else’s. So do what¬†you¬†want. Do what¬†you¬†need.

What society puts on you, and what society thinks of you does not matter. Maybe your meant to lead, to serve, to create, to organize. Whatever your passion or your calling is, find it. Find it and make it happen. ¬†What do you love to do? What is your passion?¬†Finding your purpose in this life isn’t always the easiest, but the more you think about it and the more you work towards it positively, the closer and sweeter your life will become.

Ask yourself “where can I grow?” and “what can I do right now that will have a positive affect on my future self?”

“To know where your going, you must¬†evaluate where you are”

Often times, when people near the end of their lives, the only regret they have is not fulfilling their own dreams. Not going after their own passion. And not doing what they love, or what makes them happy.

What do I want to do with my life? What do I love to do? And most importantly, what makes me happy? Put all judgements and expectations aside and think about this with a clear and open mind. Where are you going? Are you satisfied with your life today and the effort and energy you have put into it? Because if you want your life to happen, sometimes you have to chase it. And it you want to find your purpose in this life, find what brings you meaning, joy and passion!
